Autism spectrum disorder
traits
Difficulty with social cues/subtleties that seem intuitive to neurotypicals;
hyperfixations, unusual interests;
difficulty with changes in routine;
strong reactions to senses;
prolongued emotional reactions;
lack of ability to motivate in certain areas ;
masking,* just because one doesn't appear to have any traits it does not mean they aren't in the spectrum.
“Masking" or "camouflaging" is artificially ‘perform’ social behavior that is deemed to be more ‘neurotypical’ or hiding behavior that might be viewed as socially unacceptable.
It is important to notice that not everyone experiences the same symptoms, abilities or degrees of the disorder. It is a spectrum and each experience is different! Every person presents differently.
Also, this carrd has the purpose of inform, not to be used to self-diagnose material.
Seek a professional if you identified with these traits-but, remember that having these traits does not necessarily means you are on the spectrum.
Differences and similarities between aspergers& Autism
Autism
Refers to a brain developmental disorder that is generally characterized by impaired social interaction with others, established restricted and repetitive patterns and difficulties with communication.
Asperger's Syndrome
Also known as Asperger syndrome or Asperger’s disorder, this refers to a condition with milder symptoms of autistic disorder.
Similar to autism, people with Asperger's have issues with nonverbal communication skills and empathy and were physically clumsy.
Generally, people with Asperger do not suffer from the speech impairments or inabilities that often characterize those with an autism spectrum disorder.
Both people with Asperger's and Autism Spectrum Disorder deserve to be respected!
